December Update 2/2 - Gunmetal & Shipping
over 5 years ago – Sat, Dec 22, 2018 at 01:02:38 AM

Dear Backers, Happy Holidays!

We’re so pleased to be sharing our latest progress update with you and are excited to report positive news along with fantastic photos of the Model T razors coming out of our continued assembly.

We’re happy to announce that the first batch of Gunmetal parts have arrived earlier this week to our assembly facility in Canada. The first round of razors have gone through quality control and assembly and the final product, as you can see in the photos below, looks absolutely stunning.

The next step is for us to continue with the assembly of these razors, run them through final quality control checks and start shipping them to you, our backers.

To give you better sense of what’s involved in the assembly of the Model T, we wanted to run you through some of the steps required. The photo below shows the various individual parts required to assemble a Rockwell Model T - this is our starting point.

All of these individual parts have to be checked for quality before we start the various sub-assembly steps. Ultimately, this produces a subassembly that is only missing a T-Bar and the two Top Doors.

At this point, there are several very critical dimensional checks we perform, using several sets of custom-made gauges. We can then proceed with the final assembly step, mounting the T-Bar and Doors onto the razor to get the final product.

The final assembled razor goes through additional quality checks by our team, gets packaged in the sleek black box pictured above, and is prepared for transfer to our fulfillment centre in Chicago.

So these are the steps we’re working through right now. All of these steps are critical and are completed in batches to ensure quality, starting with smaller batches and a more intensive review process at first, scaling-up as we continue.

Our first batch is ready and just needs to be packaged and transferred, so you will start to see the next round of shipments departing Friday Dec 28 and continuing in early January.

With the Christmas holidays approaching, our assembly facility will be closed from December 22nd to January 3rd, with operations resuming on January 4th. You will see the next set of shipments going out mid-January, with the volume of shipments steadily increasing in latter batches. Brushed Chrome Model T razors will begin shipping out in January. As was mentioned December 4th, we are still forecasting that all outstanding razors should be manufactured and shipped by February.

Again, we thank you for your support and patience. The Rockwell Model T is truly the result of precision engineering, innovative manufacturing, and deep passion. We sincerely thank you for joining us on this journey that is soon coming to a close. We will be back to you with our next update the week of January 14th. In the meantime, we hope you all have a wonderful Holiday season!

December Update 1/2 - Shipping Update
over 5 years ago – Wed, Dec 05, 2018 at 12:39:02 AM

Dear Backers,

Thanks again for your support. We have heard your feedback about receiving more frequent updates as we enter the home stretch of production and delivery, and we will be providing updates approximately every two weeks going forward.

From our last update, the parts that have been produced are looking cosmetically incredible. However, our production schedule has been pushed back several weeks, primarily due to very recent delays encountered at the chrome plating factory finishing the T-Bars, which will be compounded by holiday closures at the domestic assembly factory. We want to be clear that we are very, very, very close to the final delivery and appreciate your patience at this time. We are also happy to announce that, as we enter this production, we have implemented an additional collection of improvements to the quality control of parts before they enter our assembly steps and final quality control measurements to ensure every razor shipped is within tolerance. These improvements are especially critical to ensure consistent quality throughout the full production.

The remaining parts required to fulfill all finishes of Model T pledge rewards are currently scheduled for delivery to our manufacturing facility in Canada between December 18th and January 21st. These parts will arrive in several batches. The first batch, arriving December 18th, will include all remaining parts required to assemble approximately 2000 Gunmetal Model T razors. Once these final parts arrive, we need to run the parts through our new series of quality control checks, complete the assembly, and QC the final assembled razors before shipping. This means that, subject to the parts passing QC, we will be able to start shipping the first wave of Gunmetal Model T razors before the end of December. However, due to holiday closures at our manufacturing facility, the bulk of the razors -- including all Brushed Chrome and outstanding White Chrome -- will be assembled and shipped in January 2019. As we expect all parts to be received by the third week in January, we are forecasting that all outstanding razors should be manufactured and shipped by February.

As we stated earlier, we will provide updates every two weeks as we close out the production and delivery. You can expect a full update including pictures for the week of December 18th, the week of January 7th, as well as January 21st and February 5th. After that time, we expect to have closed out manufacturing and to have delivered all outstanding pledge rewards.

Together, we have been on a long journey and we appreciate your support as we enter the final stretch. As challenging as this process has been, we continue to commit to push through roadblocks and complexity in as timely and responsible a manner as possible, and will continue to do so until each and every backer is absolutely thrilled with their pledge rewards. We also know that there can be heightened expectations around the holidays but we do not want to let any milestone date, even Christmas, push us into delivering a product that is below the quality standards we have committed to maintaining.

Thanks again for your support, patience and positive feedback.

November Update - Shipping Continues!
over 5 years ago – Sat, Nov 03, 2018 at 02:02:25 AM

Dear Backers,

We’re thrilled to share a quick update on our continued Model T shipping as more and more backers continue to receive their pledge rewards! Just a quick review in case you’ve missed the last few updates: The Model T razors with the One-Piece T-Bar and other engineering improvements detailed in our recent updates have solved all our outstanding concerns, and we are continuing to ship the White Chrome Model T razors!

We wanted to keep you all updated on the shipping process for the remaining razors. We’ve shipped out the majority of the White Chrome Model T pledge rewards, and expect to ship outstanding Gunmetal and Brushed Chrome pledges in waves starting at beginning of December. We’ve been working diligently with our manufacturing partners, engineering, assembly and QC teams to open up a second assembly line to get the accurate assembly you all expect rolling even faster than our current assembly rate.

We did want to share one quick note on shipping and communication as we’ve begun international shipping. While we’ve done our best to ensure a seamless process to get Model T razors from our facilities into your hands, the nuances and unpredictability of international shipping are bound to intervene in small ways on occasion. We’ve had a few backers mention in the comments their concern that their Model T was misplaced in transit, and we want to help in any of these cases! If you have questions about your Model T shipment, please feel free to reach out to [email protected] and we’ll help out as soon as possible.

As always, please let us know if there’s anything we can do to help as we come down the home stretch of fulfilling all the remaining pledge rewards to you, our valued backers!

September Update 2/2 - Updated Shipping Timelines
over 5 years ago – Sat, Sep 22, 2018 at 02:43:16 AM

Dear Backers,

We’re happy to share with you our latest news, and the shipping timeline we mentioned earlier this month! We’ve continued shipping the Model T razors with the One-Piece T-Bar and other engineering improvements detailed in our recent updates. Nearly 1000 White Chrome Model T razors have gone out to backers including many shipments to backers outside North America. The feedback from this initial production with the engineering changes has made few things become increasingly clear. Firstly, the One-Piece T-Bar has been the final integral piece to getting to a razor that would meet our high quality standards.

Secondly, we’ve been able to reach new unexpected efficiencies in assembly with the new One-Piece T-Bar, but we’ll have more on that later in the update! Finally, we now have a razor that delivers our backers the phenomenal shaves you expect from a Rockwell Razor. We’re feeling very confident in the response we’ve been getting since our last engineering changes, and can’t wait to hear the positive reviews about perfect shaves from each and every one of you!

Onto the timeline that many of you have been waiting for! We’ve been working diligently with our manufacturing partners, engineering, assembly and QC teams to gain clarity on the shipping timelines we can confidently share with all of you. Now that we have vetted the engineering changes we’re happy to announce that all of the necessary production is now moving full steam ahead - that means continuing production of the full quantity of One-Piece T-Bar required and assembly with our improved production and QC process. This production is starting immediately. We expect to ship all remaining Kickstarter pledge rewards by mid-to-late December, and many of you will be receiving your pledge reward before the Christmas / Holiday season! You see that White Chrome razors will continue to ship through the earlier part of the fall with Gunmetal and Brushed Chrome razors shipping closer to the end of the year. We appreciate all of your support and patience while we have worked to get the Model T right, and we (and many of your fellow backers) are quite certain you will find it more than worth the wait!

In a final piece of related news, we’ve been working diligently to hit better efficiencies in our production and assembly processes. Our goal has been to have the Model T reach a price point that’s more accessible to the vast majority of customers looking to eliminate razor burn, ingrown hairs, and cartridge-cuts, all while getting the most affordable shave of their lives. We knew that the $195 retail price point for the Model T would limit accessibility, but before the successful implementation of the One-Piece T-Bar, there was no way to hit our lower price-point targets. We’re happy to announce that with the One-Piece T-Bar, we’ll be able to adjust the final retail price of the Model T to $119 USD - this means that our backers have still received up to a 34% discount off the retail price of the razor alone, plus the additional bonuses shipping with each razor (who’s excited to not have to buy razors blades for several years?!).

We’ll also be introducing a special lifetime discount “MVP Program” on all Rockwell products for all Model T backers to thank you for your patience - more details on that to come. In addition to the lifetime discounts, in the future we’ll be offering complimentary product samples in every MVP shipment, first-dibs on beta-testing new products and fragrances as we release them over 2019 (and beyond), and some more perks that we can’t wait to announce to you in a few months!

To any pre-order customers reading this update that did pre-order at the $195 price point through our website over the last few months, we’ll be sending you a $76 reimbursement over the course of this upcoming week.

As always, we can’t wait to hear from all of you, and look forward to supporting you in any way we can. Now we have to get back to work on getting your Model T razors shipped out as soon as possible!

September Update 1/2 - One-Piece T-Bar Shipping Has Begun!
over 5 years ago – Wed, Sep 05, 2018 at 09:38:10 PM

Dear Backers,

We’re happy to share with you our latest update! As you know from our last update earlier this summer, we’ve decided to push forward with some final engineering changes to the Rockwell Model T to improve the overall tolerances and address issues that came from feedback from the initial razors shipped. The most substantial of these improvements was the move to the One-Piece T-bar. Mid-August we received the new One-Piece T-Bars and additional parts. For the last couple of weeks we’ve been assembling and preparing Model T razors for QC and review. So far we have assembled just over 250 razors with the new parts which we’ve begun shipping to backers, including international backers, today!

As you might have guessed from the quantities shipping, our assemblies with the One-Piece T-Bar have been a success! We’re seeing a substantial increase in final (assembled) tolerance and consistency, and the Model T razors being produced are passing every aspect of our quality control, have passed stress tests, and our beta testers have confirmed the razors are shaving like a dream! We are now only awaiting confirmation from from the backers we’ve shipped to that their Model Ts are performing completely as expected (or better!). At that point, we’ll be able to manufacture the remaining T-Bars, import them, and ship out all remaining Model T razors to all backers.

We were hoping to provide a full shipping timeline in this update, assuming that we’d have substantial backer feedback on the One-Piece T-Bar at this point. Unfortunately, the latest shipment of Model T razors down to our Chicago facility was held up unexpectedly at customs and then delayed over the Labor Day long weekend, and didn’t get shipped out in time for us to receive sufficient backer feedback (they're shipping today!). As a result, we’ll be announcing the final shipping timeline in an additional update on September 21st (in about 2 weeks). That being said, we expect to be able to move very quickly at this point and have all these razors in all your hands very soon!

As always, thank you for all of your ongoing support,
The Rockwell Razors Team
