June Update - First Molds!
almost 8 years ago – Fri, Jun 24, 2016 at 11:08:37 PM

Dear Backers,

Only good news this month! Everything’s been moving ahead smoothly in production - if you’re not going to read this update beyond this paragraph, here’s a quick rundown: We’ve got some of the first molds for Model T parts, and the rest are on their way (pictures below). Lots of new products are in development, those will be revealed in full towards the end of the calendar year! I’m working on concepts for a more complete branding for Rockwell Razors going forward, and I should be able to present a few options for you guys to vote on in the August update. Okay - that’s it for those of you with short attention spans, limited time, or are actively on the run from the law. Full update below.

Production

Here are pictures of one of the first molds we’re getting for Model T parts! Molds are, by nature, not particularly photogenic, but here it is:

I was hoping to show packaging concepts this month for the Model T, but I’m going to hold off on that until a few months from now once all the new Rockwell branding is finished and the packaging design in confirmed. Thanks for your patience!

New Products

I’ve been working on a whole slew of new products that I’ll be announcing in stages between July and November as formulas and designs are finished. Stated simply, I think you’ll all have a lot to be excited about around Rockwell’s growth and expansion. And, as backers, you’ll of course have the opportunity to try a whole bunch of Rockwell’s new stuff at a discount!

New Branding

As mentioned earlier, I’ve been working on a new direction for the Rockwell branding, and my aim is to present three different options for backers to vote on as their favourite in August. Stay tuned!

Reminders and Communication

For anyone who might have missed last month’s update: I’ll be available to answer questions that come up between updates on the comments board of this campaign, by direct Kickstarter message, or by contact form on the Rockwell Razors website. I'm extremely thankful to every one of you that have pledged for a Model T - I believe that open, honest, and consistent communication is the least I can do to thank you for your generous support for Rockwell Razors. You should expect no less. Also for anyone who missed last month’s update: Regarding surveys - I’m going to hold off on sending out backer surveys until later this year. I learned during Rockwell's last campaign that people have the tendency to change addresses. A lot. And it definitely sucks to hear when backers didn’t receive a pledge reward because they moved addresses since filling in a backer survey.

Reading List

In the past few updates, by recommendation of some of my fellow campaign creators, I’d been arranging a cross-promotion with other campaigns to share our campaigns with backers. While I’m grateful that strategy likely exposed this campaign to some backers that might not have otherwise heard about the Model T, “cross-promotion” really felt unnatural to me as a crowdfunder - so I’m not going to be doing that any more. Instead, I’m going to use these updates to get to know my backers better.

I get through over 100 books a year and every so often I come across one that’s really share worthy - so I figure I’ll share one of these books in each month’s update! As you’re a backer of this campaign, I suspect we share at least a few interests, so hopefully you’ll enjoy at least few of these books as much as I have!

Ryan Holiday's writing has been hugely influential on both myself and the history of Rockwell, so I thought it would be appropriate to share his incredible new book, The Ego Is The Enemy, this month. If I could summarize the book in a sentence, it’s a discussion of the virtue of suppressing ego (a voice that tells us we’re better than we really are), so that our ego will not inhibit success by preventing a direct and honest connection to the world around us. I sincerely hope you enjoy the read, if you choose to take a look!

Moving Ahead and What's Next (May Update)
almost 8 years ago – Tue, Jun 21, 2016 at 10:58:49 AM

Dear Backers,

Now that a week has passed since the close of our Kickstarter campaign, I wanted to fill you all in on what to expect in the upcoming months!

Production

Great news! I’ve already begun the tooling process, and production of the Model T is on schedule. Some of you have asked about additional colours and finishes - I’m still exploring this, but I don’t want to make any commitments until I’m 100% certain around feasibility and costs.

Packaging

I consider presentation an important part of this project, and I’m currently putting the finishing touches on a packaging concept that I think you’ll be really excited about. I wanted to provide backers with something that will not only represent an great unboxing experience, but that could also be a very attractive storage or travel case. I’m also looking to have this packaging specially marked with “Kickstarter Edition” (or a similar marking) to recognize you, our backer, as one of the earliest supporters of the Model T. I’m expecting to have a drawing / rendering to show you in next month's update, and final pictures before the Model T ships. I think you’ll love it!

Updates and Communication

I am 100% committed to monthly updates on Kickstarter between now and the shipping of the Rockwell Model T - I want to keep you posted on progress and ideas, but also not spam your inbox! You can expect those monthly updates from me on the final Friday of every month, but I'll give a heads-up in the comments if that has to change on any given month for an unforeseen reason. As per usual, I’ll be available to answer questions that come up between updates on the comments board of this campaign, by direct Kickstarter message, or by contact form on the Rockwell Razors website. I'm extremely thankful to every one of you that have pledged for a Model T - I believe that open, honest, and consistent communication is the least I can do to thank you for your generous support for Rockwell Razors. You should expect no less.

Surveys, Add Ons, and What’s Next

I learned during Rockwell's last campaign that people have the tendency to change addresses. A lot. And it definitely sucks to hear when backers didn’t receive a pledge reward because they moved addresses since filling in a backer survey. This is one of the reasons I’m going to hold off on sending out backer surveys until later this year. The other reason that I’m holding off on surveys is because I’ve been working on a ton of products to complement your new Rockwell Model T, and those products won’t be ready to show off until later this year. I’ll be announcing these products over the coming months as final specifications are settled, and will likely be polling you guys on what products you’d most like to see Rockwell produce! That is, after all, what crowdfunding is all about. So in summary, please don't be alarmed that you don't immediately receive a backer survey, you haven't been forgotten! Quite the opposite - I'm simply taking the time to ensure every backer receives their pledge rewards, at the correct address, in a timely fashion. I know that this is a little unconventional for a Kickstarter campaign, but if you have any questions or require any clarification, please feel free to reach out any time. I can’t wait to show you all what Rockwell has in store!

Thank you all so much for the ongoing support, and for helping make the Rockwell Model T a reality. This is going to be awesome.

Other Kickstarter Campaigns

Finally, I wanted to share some other projects active on Kickstarter right now. I've arranged a cross-promotion agreement with these campaigns such that they are also sharing the Model T campaign (now live on Indiegogo's InDemand) with their backers. I’ve filtered through a lot of active campaigns to make sure I'm only sharing campaigns that I not only think are awesome, but that have a positive track record on Kickstarter or have reached a manufacturing stage that we feel confident in. While I can’t make any promises on their behalf, I'm optimistic these campaigns will deliver a positive backer experience.

Truu Earbuds

Truu - True wireless earbuds with wireless charging. No more charging cords or cases, just pure freedom.

Stylus Flex

Finally a sleek stand & stylus for your phone. Loop it to reach any part of your screen, and latch it for the perfect picture.

The Final 3 Days!
almost 8 years ago – Fri, May 13, 2016 at 12:00:01 PM

Dear Backers,

With the campaign ending this Friday, we wanted to take this chance to sincerely thank everyone who’s supported the Rockwell Model T - it’s extremely encouraging to see all the excitement around our newest razor! We’re 100% dedicated to delivering all of you a razor that exceeds all of your expectations, and delivering it on schedule.

As we enter the final 72 hours, any last-minute shares of the campaign you can provide are massively helpful in spreading the word about customizable shaving. Action typically heats up in the last few days of a campaign so we're looking forward to a strong finish to what has been an amazing campaign.

Thanks again for all your support - we're excited to move onto the production of the Rockwell Model T with such an awesome collection of engaged backers! Our next update will be on Monday, May 16th, to give you all an idea of what to expect in the coming months while we head into production.

$250,000 Update and New Stretch Goal!
almost 8 years ago – Thu, May 12, 2016 at 01:26:37 PM

Dear Backers,

We have fantastic news - after reaching the $250,000 mark, all our backers will be receiving a free leather sheath with their Rockwell Model T, along with a free 100-Pack of Rockwell Blades and a Blade Bank for disposal! We think you guys will love the leather sheath for the extra protection while travelling with your Model T.

Thank you all so much for all your ongoing support! After our last stretch goal announcement, we got a lot of useful feedback. Taking all the amazing feedback into consideration, we do have another stretch goal to announce. This one is a big one – a real stretch but an amazing bonus. So here it is: if this campaign reaches $500,000 in funding, we’ll be able to include a free chromed brass stand with every Model T - exclusively for each and every one of our backers. We know $500,000 may seem far away, but we still have 18 days left in the campaign and have been seeing increasing momentum as we gain additional press courage.

Here’s where you can help – we know that press coverage is the best thing to increase our numbers. You can help get us press coverage by sending the link to our press kit to your favorite blogs, writers, magazines and newspapers. This media kit has everything they need to write a story about the Rockwell Model T Kickstarter. When they cover our project it drives traffic and gets us closer to the $500,000 goal. Also for those of you in non-English speaking countries translating the press kit and sending to good local blogs, newspapers or magazine really helps us.

At our current funding pace, we recognize that this stretch goal isn’t guaranteed to be reached by the end of the campaign – though I suppose that’s part of the reason why they call them stretch goals! With your help though we can get there.

As always, thank you all for your ongoing support, it means the world to us!
